I've read your emails. I've read your comments. How do I find my vintage items? I will shop everywhere from estate sales to a yard sale being held in a gas station parking lot. I mostly rely on instinct for what I choose, but there are a few shopping methods that I can share.
This purchase falls under the section I'll title: Making It Work. It's easy to pass up clothing on the rack due to things like bulging shoulder pads or erratic sequin designs. But with a little adjusting, I think this vintage sweater can work in my closet.
The first plan of attack is snipping out the cumbersome shoulder pads.
While I love sparkle, I couldn't get with the sequin dots. One was sewn in a spot that looked like it was sliding off my boob, much like a showgirl losing her pastie.
This is easily fixed with tools you already have in your house. Don't have fancy sewing scissors? Cuticle scissors work in a pinch! Just snip loose the threads and gently tug the sequins off.
Sans sequins and shoulder pads, the graphic swoops are able to shine on their own.

Going out to celebrate the conclusion of a four year project, and the beginning of a new one. I'm still figuring out what I want to wear, but I think this vintage red skirt is the frontrunner.

Moodboard Confessions: I usually travel in black yoga pants (the horror!), my softest white t-shirt, black cashmere cardigan, and black ballet flats with a pair of cashmere socks tucked in my carry on.
I wear this ensemble because I'm normally huddled in the fetal position during flight. If I loved flying I would travel like Lauren Santo Domingo, wearing a gorgeous dress and heels, with a sexy Proenza Schouler bag hanging from my arm. Maybe this is reverse psychology, how could a plane crash when one is looking so fabulous?

I'm sure I'm not the only vintage lover to swoon over this editorial in the November issue of Vogue. Grace Coddington brought the magic as usual, creating the perfect escape from the cold with Patrick Demarchelier's painterly photography. This is how I imagine the women of Edith Wharton's world spending the summer.
Has anyone been to The Mount, the home that Wharton designed in Massachusetts? It has been on my need-to-visit list for years. The recent demolition of the Carnegie Hall Tower apartments and the house that inspired The Great Gatsby has prompted me to be more active in supporting and protecting historical architecture.
Beaded Felt Pencil Skirt, $298-I'm wondering if this skirt is going to be pencil shaped, as shown in the model picture, or more a-line as shown in the product picture. It kind of bothers me that the design doesn't wrap all the way around for that price, but at the same time it makes it less dressy and more versatile.

Smoke Signs Blouse, $158-This blouse reminds me of the Prada Fall 2012 prints and I like the vintage vibe.
Abstract Landscape Pullover, $188-I have a thing for odd sweaters, especially ones with landscapes. I thrifted one with sheep that I'll get the nerve to show you one day.
Satin Palazzos, $228-These pants are definitely not my normal style, but I'm attracted to the color and dramatic silhouette.

It isn't quite the 1980's years of perms, but big, curly hair is showing up all over the place lately. We have it on the spring runways, Blake Lively has been channeling Sarah Jessica Parker, and I noticed it on Zooey Deschanel when I caught up on the New Girl this weekend.
Might be time to bust out the hot rollers and shake things up in the air-dried waves department.
