Long Time, No Blog

Hi. 

I individually responded to each comment on the post about my grandmother, but wanted to say a great big THANK YOU! to everyone that shared their stories and left condolences. It meant more than you know.

Having the last week off has been great for some reflection and rejuvenation of spirit. I thought a lot about shutting down the blog, because it was no longer fun and there are 20 million other places where I can store my images. If that was my only objective, but the whole point was to connect with people who shared my same aesthetic and cared that I found sequin bits and bobs at the thrift.

So I'm starting anew, and will be tweaking the blog over the next several weeks. One big change was that I had to take the blog list down to make room for some other items, but I'll be remantling it as soon as I figure out how to link it to a separate page.

I also upgraded my blog account, so I can starting posting larger images. Yes! Unfortunately, there will also be less scans that I created of my own until I can figure out how I want to handle those images. 

 

I'm trying to catch up on things, and the lovely reader Caroline pointed out that she thought I would have made a Kate Moss for Topshop post for her spring collection. She was right because there were several pieces that look promising with this collection. It looks like I missed out on most, but I'll post what caught my eye. 

Caroline, please leave a review if you can of the sequin jacket!

I also finally caught up on all the Glee episodes. The Bad Reputation episode nearly did me in when Sue went off on Molly Shannon's character, Brenda Castle. She says the most inappropriate things but she makes me laugh and laugh. 

If you love Glee's humor, and haven't seen the show "Popular", you must rent it. The scenes with Mary Cherry and Cherry Cherry are hilarious.

Oh, and Mr. M and I are mapping out a week long road trip for the end of June. So far Nashville, New Orleans, Atlanta and Savannah have made the list. Please share your summer plans, it may inspire us to visit another city.

Jade Jagger for Indiska

 

 

 

I've loved Jade Jagger's work in all its incarnations, and her latest with Indiska doesn't disappoint. The campaign images were gorgeously styled and include all my latest crushes: print upon print, shine and dashes of black. I love the tablescape in the last image.

Uncommon iphone Cases

 

I've had my iphone without a case since I bought it, and it is a miracle I haven't cracked the screen yet. I couldn't find a case that fit the phone closely and was aesthetically appealing. Fast forward to last weekend when I spotted my friend's case which was encased in fantastic art. She directed me to Uncommon, where you can pick from artwork they have available or create your own.

I uploaded one of my favorite photographs and I'm beyond pleased with the result. Bonus: They ship incredibly fast! I'm already contemplating my next cover, and I'm hoping perhaps Fifi Lapin will do a collaboration with them(hint, hint!).

Diagonal Detail with White Ribbon

 

While waiting for the internet to start working in our new home I divided my time between unpacking and hanging around the mailbox. I was hoping for clogs but instead I received the new J.Crew and West Elm catalogs. 

Looks like the fashion & home world are right in sync with diagonal ribbon detailing.

 

The front of the West Elm catalog attracted me right away, and I love the texture of the Frayed-Edge Quilt. It is made of cotton voile, and with the white color just translates to something so light and airy for summer.

 

Then I flipped through the J.Crew catalog to study the styling and noticed the Ribbon Cut Wave dress. I'm curious to how this fits without a t-shirt, belt, necklace and bag clasped in front. Oh, and Mr. M said, why is she standing like that? Did someone throw cold water on her?

We are in the final stretch of our move, and in desperate need of some R&R at a beach! I would love nothing more than to jet to the ocean, sit on the sand letting the waves roll over my bare feet, read some Oscar Wilde(who makes me giggle out loud), and let the sun sparkle off the circle of black diamonds around my neck.

Liberty of London: Target & MAC Reviews

 

 I drove in the rain to Target only to get to the store and see workers still unpacking boxes on the floor. I didn't get to see very much, so I'll just review the items I did see and buy.

Clothing-I bypassed the women's because I was disappointed by all the poly fabrics. I don't know why, but I always associate Liberty prints with cotton. The toddler section had hardly been stocked, but I loved all the pieces that I did see. Everything was cotton and I picked up some dresses for the baby girl(aka my three year old niece).

 

I also stopped by the girl's section to look for another niece. They had smocked tube top style dresses that I passed on because I remember smocked bodices itched me like crazy as a child. There was one dress though that I liked, and in a size that looked like it would fit me. It did! The L size was too tight in the ribcage, but the XL fit with some excess material at the top.

I adjusted it with a paper clip, but I would need some stitches there to create a sweetheart neckline. I would also want the skirt taken up a couple of inches to make it more of a playful babydoll style. 

I'm not sure if I'm keeping it because my style has been changing a bit, but the quality is very good for $16.99. It is 100% cotton and has the prettiest pink lining.

Housewares-They had also put out the tumblers and dishes but I passed on those too. I assumed they would be glass and ceramic like the Tjord Boontje collection but they were all melamine.

No bedding for me either because I have stacks of 60's/70's vintage flower power linens in my closet.

 

I then ran to Sephora to check out some YSL lipgloss that I had seen on Hanneli's blog. I didn't count on having to budget for $30 for lipgloss. Bah. I pouted my way down to to MAC and saw they had their Liberty of London collaboration. I bought the Perennial High Style lipglass, which isn't YSL, but it is a bright creamy coral in the prettiest package. Plus, the price was right at $14.

Nine West Spring/Summer Shoes 2010

I initially went to the Nine West site to see if they had any clog style shoes. That led to browsing for warm weather shoes, which is a big gaping hole in my closet. How does one have 5001 pairs of boots but only buckets of rubber flip flops for summer? I can blame that on living in LA, but I don't live near the ocean anymore!

I'm now craving a pair of nude shoes that have cat's cradle like weaving. I saw one pair that caught my eye, then I just kept adding pair after pair to my wish list.

I'm not super crazy about the mini wedge on the Willard, I would have loved just a nice cushy flat, but I like the lace up detail on the black.

Help Haiti

Haiti is suffering from so much devastation, and I'm so proud of this world coming together to help. So many volunteers working tirelessly round the clock to save those in need, such as babies who have lost their parents in the quake. 

 

When you go to sleep tonight please keep in mind the displaced people of Haiti, who may only have a rock to rest their head against.

Florica Design Headpieces

I received an email from designer Helen James, and I've spent the last day browing her work here and here. I'm in love with her headpieces, especially the ones that pair creamy colors with dashes of black.

I don't think my resolve to concentrate only on winter clothing is going to hold. Why does spring have to be my favorite season? 

 

 
 
 

 
 
 

Stripes, Plaid and Red Just to Mix it Up

 

I almost spit out my hot cocoa, when I saw this picture on the Sartorialist. Not only do I adore this outfit, but I thought for a moment he was wearing my vintage coat. 

 

That outfit also reminded me of a brand I keep seeing pop on Net-a-Porter, Aubin & Wills. It is a sister line to Jack Wills, which looks like a British version of Abercrombie & Fitch. For a British line, they actually have perfect French style stripe tees that are all the rage right now. Act fast though, their pieces don't seem to last long on the site before they sell out.
