Bon Appetit has a new editor-in-chief, Adam Rapoport, and he comes out swinging with Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover of his second issue. From what I'm reading online he is getting some flack for putting a celebrity on the cover instead of a plate of food.
I associate Bon Appetit with clean, easy images, and I think this spread with Gwyneth fits right in. I was waffling on buying her book until I saw L.A. in Bloom's review, which pushed my decision into the must buy side. I always enjoying seeing the human side of the subject, and the thought processes that go on behind the scenes.
Rapoport plans on putting more people on covers, so I guess we'll have to wait and see how well they merge them in. I remember when Lucky magazine went through a similar problem when they traded out models for actresses on their covers. It didn't bother me much, but I do think they could have been more selective with their choices.
