My mom is the queen of budget shopping. I don't know how she does it, but she manages to ferret out the treasures from the dregs of dollar stores. I will get packages containing oddities like hangers in 1950's mint green and pink trash bags. Basically, things you don't realize you want until you see how pretty your garbage looks next to your neighbor's black Hefty sacks.
When I was at her house this weekend I noticed she has several matte black buckets lined up on a wood cabinet, not for mopping, but to use for storage. The way she had them displayed looked a little modern Japanese or Swedish in design and I wanted them too.
I called every store in town but they were all sold out. My guy decided to drop in one of them and check it out for himself. They were none on the shelf but on his way out he noticed a stack of them on a display near the front door holding fake flowers. After negotiating with the sales clerk–he made my guy find something else to put the flowers in, haha–they were all mine.
Really ridiculous search for a mop bucket, but I'm a sucker for storage, especially when a $1 and matte black. I wish I had taken a pic of my mom's, but instead you get to see them in their temporary perch, along with my vintage locker baskets. I included them so you can see my weird tic of buying things in fours.
