In Her Closet: Shaping Up for Fall 2011

Who's closet is this? I would never believe mine with all the bright primary colors and graphic prints. But as you can see, my fall wardrobe is starting to shape up in a very bold way. 

These are the pieces that I've been finding in second hand shops and flea markets all summer and tucking away for the fall season (excluding the Alexa Chung for Madewell red silk blouse). I'm still crushing on blue, but I'm gravitating towards vibrant reds and greens as well. I also can't get enough of checks and abstract prints.

I've been keeping my eye out for a wallet friendly version of Isabel Marant's sheepskin vest, but I haven't had any luck. If your budget is bigger than mine, there are lots of luscious options, as seen above. I also included a vest from Topshop for those that like to wear faux fur.

Teen Vogue did an editorial using modern interpretations of looks through the decades that was really good. I think I've posted almost every page to my inspiration board.

In Her Closet: 1970's Anne Klein Shorts

So I said I was going to show you the reverse side of these vintage shorts almost two months ago. eep! I'm not even sure if they are suppose to be reversible, since the back zipper is exposed, but I love the pattern too much to keep it hidden. 

My favorite way to wear a necklace is with a dress shirt. Just enough space for the necklace to be seen, but not enough necklace to distract from everything else.  These vintage hammered brass chokers have been my go-to for the last couple of weeks.

In Her Closet: Vintage Pendleton & Coach

A quick lunch time stop resulted in an old school wool Pendleton midi skirt and a perfectly worn in Coach bag.

 

Wishlist: Fendi Chameleon Laser-Cut Leather Heels

Dying a million deaths over these silver Fendi heels. Can we talk about the pointelle design along the heel? Need. Saks, $935

 

Editorial Style: Weekend Warriors

Teen Vogue had some great editorials in their September issue, but I think this one is my favorite. The styling is a little Mad Max meets Vivienne Westwood Punk meets the Great Plains. This means you have a mix of Navajo prints and plaids of various sizes coupled with crazy cool braids.

Fall and plaid tend to go hand and hand, but this is the first time that I've really started to appreciate the grid patterns. While polka dots tend to have a whimsical quality, plaid can have subversive connotations that make it all that more alluring.

Alexa Chung for Madewell Fall 2011

The first images of Alexa Chung's second collaboration with Madewell—due to hit stores September 22— are starting to hit online and in magazines. I'm interested in seeing more of the palm tree dress, along with a pair of leopard boots that Chung mentions in the article. "No one was making a leopard-print boot that I loved. The shoe you'll see in the stores is from my exact drawing."

In Her Home: 1940's Hanging Planter

I went to an antique flea market this weekend, but sadly, a lot of my favorite sellers weren't there. I was on the lookout for clothing, but I wound up purchasing a really odd painting and this 1940's hanging planter. I'm still very interested in pieces with a tribal bent, and I was really drawn to the blue color.
