We stumbled across Eleven Vintage in February when we got lost trying to find a Housing Works thrift store. I wanted to blog about it about it right away, but I've held on to my pictures until now since the store's aesthetic so perfectly mirrored what was walking down the fall 2010 runways.
Are you looking for old military jackets, chunky knit ski sweaters with folkloric prints and distressed leather in every form? Currently obsessed with menswear on girls like I am? Look no further. The store's cohesive look is completed by old industrial lamps, steamer trunks and vintage artwork scattered around the walls. In the back you will find a stack of Japanese indigo quilts holding court with rows upon rows of vintage boots. I think I tried on most of their stock, as I desperately tried to make some of the men's styles work.
Voted one of the 25 best vintage stores in America by GQ Magazine, this boutique is the brainchild of owner Oliver Harkness, who hails from Ireland. When I first asked if I could take pictures I was turned down but later they told me Oliver would like to talk to me in the basement. You have to scale down into what seems like a fairy tale rabbit hole to where they have some items from his own line, The Quality Mending Co.
I'll save the rest of that story for another post, but since they are celebrating Fashion's Night Out along with a new name, now under the The Quality Mending Co., I wanted to post a review of the store.
