Going to Kentucky Derby even though they are predicting rain. No matter, I'll be getting my fancy hat on and betting on any horse that has a cool name.

Home Profile: Designer Tamsin de Roemer Part II

I found another old editorial featuring the London home of designer Tamsin de Roemer.  This is perfect timing as it showcases the East meets West design influencing me right now. 

I've been obsessed with a combination of black, wood and cream in clothing and home design. Not a new obsession, but it has kicked into high gear in the last couple of months.

Look of the Day: Crochet Leather Dress

I'm obsessed with the crochet like knit of this leather tunic. I'm equally obsessed with the light blue color of the python bag. Gah. 

I think 3 Women has definitely permeated my brain, because I normally wouldn't look twice at white shoes(even if tinted pink).

Editorial Inspiration: Pretty Woman

 

While figuring out what I'm in the mood to wear this season, I'm also figuring out what I never seem to tire of:

1. Velvety black mixed in with pale, creamy colors
2. Dashes of shine and sparkle
3. Boyish/masculine elements to ground all the ethereal bits(or vice versa)
4. Hair that looks like it has never met a brush
5. Rosy, glossy cheeks and layers of sooty mascara
6. Trying to come off with ways to mix patterns

This editorial has me sighing and dying as it manages to encompass all of those things. The Rochas skirt above? Making my heart go swoon, swoop and beat double time.

 

 

Dior by John Galliano dresses. Nothing more to say. 

 

I love that this Marc Jacobs dress looks vintage, but that abbreviated hem makes it so much more wearable.

 

 

The python trench,  the dip dye dress and cardigan? Prada=Perfect. 

 

 

The silver & white Dior spectator heels. 

 

Corsets are high on the list right now.

J.Crew May 2010 Wants

I spotted this image on a catalog while watching Jenna Lyons on Oprah yesterday and was hoping this was the new May cover. Of course, I found a few new items in that catalog that also piqued my interest.

 

I've been trying to track down some more dressy silk shorts for this summer and I'm hoping this pair will work. From what I can see, I love the slouchy fit and color. 

There is no reason for me to own another sequin top, but this one is different from the others. Really! Okay, I tried.

3 Women

 

Rhiannon mentioned 3 Women on her blog yesterday, and I'm feeling the same 70's aesthetic affecting my wardrobe.I wasn't going to blog this to avoid being repetitive but rather than chuck all the work I put into the images I just edited the post up. Instead of having inspiration boards I'll just blather on about what I liked in certain scenes;) 

This film is pretty trippy, and I was totally lost the last five minutes but I can be stupid when it comes to movie scripts. For some reason, the imagination I use for reading literature is lost when it comes to filling in the holes of a movie. 

 

 

Artist Bodhi Wind did the mural work in the movie, and the colors and imagery are amazing. It reminds me me of the art deco work done by Erté.

 

 

 

I wanted to include some shots of Millie Lammoreaux's(Shelley Duvall) apartment. For the most part, Millie is dressed primarily in yellow, as is her apartment. Pinky Rose(Sissy Spacek) is true to her name and is outfitted in soft pinks that become brighter as she changes.

 

 

 

So to say I'm obsessed with the outfit Millie is wearing would be an understatement. I had to refrain my self from posting more pics of her when I was trying to catch details. It also is one of the few times she is not wearing yellow, which is one of my least favorite colors. 

The last image is a shot of the skirt with another dusty peach top. Costumer Jules Melillo did a gorgeous job of dressing the cast.

 

I swing back and forth with jewelry cravings and right now it is for a simple thread of gold to encircle my neck. 

 

I included this picture because the way she reminds me of my grandmother. She is wearing turquoise drop earrings that look stunning swinging against her red hair. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture a great pic but you should see the movie just for the effect;)

When It Rains It Pours

I spent the last two days working on a post, only to take a blog reading break this afternoon and see that one of my favorite bloggers already talked about the same subject today. 

So instead of seeing that post, you get some whining, which is always inspiring. Not. Though I want to keep you updated on what is going since posting will probably continue to be light while we try to figure out what we are doing in the Moodboard household.

As some of you know, the current house we are renting is being sold, and while we continue our search for a house we have moved into a month to month condo rental. We finally finished moving on Saturday night only to receive notice that the condo has been sold...and we have to move again. *Scream*

You would think I would be used to this since I had a pretty nomadic childhood, but unwanted change never starts out fun does it? So we will start on this new path knowing that sometimes it leads to something even better than what we had planned.

Movie Inspiration: Broken Flowers & Chairs

 

I have one of those memories where I can't seem to remember my thoughts from 30 seconds before, but I can recall things from years ago with perfect clarity. Sometimes it works well for me, as when I spotted these chairs at a thrift store and remembered seeing similar ones in the movie Broken Flowers. 

It is an odd, slow type of movie, but I enjoyed it since I like Bill Murray's expertise at eye rolling and grouchy way of acting. Anyway, there is great set design throughout the movie.

 

They need to be recovered and a good rubdown with foil, but I couldn't pass them up since I'm attracted to metal furniture. I mean, it is shiny, does this come as a surprise? I just wish for once I would find a complete set of chairs! I always find just two, but I have to say finding three is worse. I always wonder what happened to that fourth chair. 

I had to include this image because it makes me laugh. Haven't we all had days like this?
