A couple of years ago the internet provider we had at the time gave you free website space.  I started up an online magazine with one of the features showcasing a weekly fashion icon.  I'm going to bring that back in the section "Style Shot" and try to post one a week. 

One of my favorites at the time and still today is Carine Roitfeld.  She inspired my look today, whether it came across or not I'm not sure.  I tried to emulate her little girl feet pose below:

      

Strike a Pose: Red Shoe Diaries

I don't think this is quite right, but trying to play with different proportions.  I think a pencil skirt would work better here.

Magazine Review: Blueprint Nov/Dec 2007

It has taken me a while to warm up to Blueprint, and I can't quite put my finger on why.  But I do know each issue is getting better and better and this is my favorite to date.  I was immediately sucked in by the pink Christmas tree & gold accents on the cover.  This color combo is currently in my top 3 for my wedding.

 

This issue has me dreaming of a pink Christmas, the feature inside is gorgeous.  Rosy at every turn with glittering feathers and swirling butterfly wreaths.  The look is grown up whimsy with enough modern lines to pull it together.

I could swear I've seen 70's Christmas candles adorn with glitter at my local thrifts, but I'm sure they will fly off the shelves now.  Lucky for us Blueprint gives tips on doing it yourself.

Home Profile: In Bloomsbury

My favorite feature by far in the November Domino is on the Bloomsbury Group.   Kate Bolick, Domino Features editor, was so inspired by the Charleston Farmhouse where they gathered that she reinvents her bedroom.  I was so excited to find more pics online, I wish Domino would have included them in the magazine.  I think the 8 page tartan spread, though lovely, could have been cut down to 4 to make room.

She chose Temperley for the editorial which was perfect.

Kate has so many great pieces in her apartment, both before and after photos.  They replicated the wallpaper with stencil and paint, such a great idea.  She was worried about her flea market finds clashing, but with the right pattern and color you can easily layer in a room.

Cameron Silver forecasted a move to this aesthetic some time ago on style.com.  I once followed this man around the Santa Monica Vintage Clothing Expo, he does have great taste. 

   

Magazine Review: Domino November 2007

I went into my local book store, which is quite terrible by the way, and didn't see any new magazine shipments.  So I popped in the grocery store for some items and there was the new holiday issue of Domino.  Here is a sneak peak of the cover-I'll have more later when I have time to peruse the magazine.

Harper's Bazaar-A Fashionable Life: Kelly Wearstler

This is such a great issue I don't even know where to begin.  I think I'm going to break my review up into different posts because there is so much to see.  Unfortunately this issue of Bazaar is only available with subscription but you can view the entire magazine online here. 

Kelly Wearstler is on the cover, and she has been one of my favs for several years now.  Not only do I admire her design aesthetic but her quirky fashion sense as well.  Not to mention we share the same hair do;)

Cameo Girl

 

I got my love for cameos from my mother.  She has always collected them and something about their feminine  profile fit right into my aesthetic.  I remember in particular an Avon brush from the 70's that she had with a cameo on the back of it.  I loved that thing and always felt it was a special privilege to be allowed to brush my hair with it. 

We had an old fashioned furnace at the time in our house, and I was always being told not to lay things on it incase of a fire.  Well you can probably guess what happened.  Playing dolls one day I laid the brush down on the furnace not thinking, and when I realized just minutes later it was too late.  When I grabbed up the brush the cameo was stuck, plastic streaming from furnace to brush.

I started bawling and I think my family at the time thought I was afraid I was in trouble.  In reality I was crying that I had destroyed the beauty of the brush and something my mother loved.  I've always placed too much value on material things, and I've been that way since I was a child.  It isn't what it is worth money wise but the memory and feeling behind it.

The two little wall plaques above were recent yard sale purchases.  I don't normally find much at our local yard sales, but these two ladies kept catching my eye.  They are a bit kitsch, but I loved the one's haughty expression, and the detail on their hair and jewelry.   

Domino Decorating Contest Finalists

After clicking on the Domino website this morning, I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the 5 finalists they chose.  Four of them are very similar in color palette and design.  I do have to admit that in pictures I'm attracted to color, so normally I skip over bland colored rooms.  Here are some of my favorites that I thought showed creativity and fun:

 

Flea Market Season is Over

I attended the last antique flea market of the season on Sunday.  I had a list of wants, and unfortunately I came up empty handed.  I did pick up 3 small items that turned out to be color coordinated, as treasure hunting trips tend to be.
