As I was leaving Lincoln Center I noticed a woman walking towards me talking on the phone. I turned to my husband (the best assistant ever) and said, "Oh gosh, that's Carine Roitfeld, she's everything." Right then Nina Garcia arrived, and about twenty photographers thundered past us to get a shot of her.
While they were distracted by Nina, my husband asked if I wanted a shot of Carine. He bounded over and started taking pics while I hid behind a pillar. Ha!
A coral pink mini skirt from Zara paired with a vintage sweater I thrifted the day we were leaving for New York. I never got to wear it, since it was hot as heck, but I did discover that I like it with the skirt.
Isabel Marant Ludo top. I never have any luck at the actual store in NYC because everything is always sold out. I happened to swing by Maryam Nassis Zadeh's shop right after they had put their shipment out.
I tweeted about hobbling into Adidas after getting lost and having to wear heels several blocks. I was so close to howling out loud from the pain. These were all I wore for the rest of the trip unless absolutely required to wear heels. The vintage red pleated skirt was thrifted with the blue sweater.
My favorite thing to bring back from New York City? Magnolia Bakery Cupcakes (and yes, I've tried all the others).
1. Altuzarra Cypress Jacket, $2,335 2. Acne Ruth Marled Sweater, $290 3. Etro Cap Toe Boots, $865 4. Chanel Eyelash Curler, $34 5. Mulberry Lily Bag in Midnight, $1000
Pieces for fall that are changed just enough to warrant an update to your wardrobe. Fatigue parkas and heathered sweaters get a feminine silhouette. Shoes and bags receive a dash of shine in the form of a cap toe and a thick chain strap. The tried and true lash curler gets a skin of black courtesy of Chanel.
It has gone from a skin melting 100 degrees to 60 degrees with a whipping wind in the last two days. I'm sure the cool weather won't last, but it made me want to start pulling out blankets.
I found these vintage wool blankets while thrifting at the beginning of summer and put them in storage. Made in Holland, they are two sided with different shades of blues, and one has pink whipstitching (twee! whee!). The one without pink whipstitching is almost like a fur throw due to its heft and curly nap.
Hudson style vintage wool blanket that I found at the thrift for $5.
Le Creuset blue pot at the thrift store? That never happens to me, but it was a lucky day.
I've had brass candlesticks on my mind lately, and I finally found a pair I liked while thrifting.
Just wanted to post a quick (and blurry) review before we headed out for the weekend. I was flipping through old wish lists and a Spring 2011 Alexander Wang dress and a pair of Miu Miu shoes had popped up in my size on clearance.
Sorry for the rather bare shots on the left, but they go along with this conversation I had with my husband after trying the dress-
Me (after putting one of his A-shirts on underneath): What do you think?
Him: It looks like you are wearing overalls.
Me: That is kinda the point.
Him: I preferred the other way.
Me: Obviously! There's sideboob.
The dress runs a little big. I bought a size 2 and could have probably fit in a size 0. No matter, it feels soft and light as a cloud on.
I don't think I'm ever going to get over my love affair with white dresses. I'm actually just having a whole white moment now (along with the bright color phase), though I guess we were supposed to be experiencing it earlier this year with the spring 2011 collections.
Lucky me, those items are now going on sale and I'm crossing my fingers I found a dress that fills this need. White after Labor Day? Absolutely.
Who's closet is this? I would never believe mine with all the bright primary colors and graphic prints. But as you can see, my fall wardrobe is starting to shape up in a very bold way.
These are the pieces that I've been finding in second hand shops and flea markets all summer and tucking away for the fall season (excluding the Alexa Chung for Madewell red silk blouse). I'm still crushing on blue, but I'm gravitating towards vibrant reds and greens as well. I also can't get enough of checks and abstract prints.
