When I found out Mr.M hadn't seen the The Champ, I netflixed it to watch a couple of weeks ago. Since I've already seen it, I was able to drink in the set & costume design. While there is a great scene about fashion in the movie, it is Billy's outfits that are sticking in my head.
Jon Voight plays the Champ(Billy) with the swagger of an ex-boxer, though it is one that has problems containing his vulnerability. I think that feeling is what I like translated into an outfit. Not sure if that makes sense, but that tension of masculine/feminine is the aesthetic I'm always after.
The Champ wears second skin tee's throughout the movie, and I'm particularly enamored with the dusty rose one he wears with work pants. Obviously this all works because it is on the muscled body of Jon Voight, in a now vintage setting, but I wouldn't mind stealing a bit of his style for myself;)
*I can't say enough about Rick Schroder's performance in this movie. He will tear your heart out.
