Stripes, Plaid and Red Just to Mix it Up

 

I almost spit out my hot cocoa, when I saw this picture on the Sartorialist. Not only do I adore this outfit, but I thought for a moment he was wearing my vintage coat. 

 

That outfit also reminded me of a brand I keep seeing pop on Net-a-Porter, Aubin & Wills. It is a sister line to Jack Wills, which looks like a British version of Abercrombie & Fitch. For a British line, they actually have perfect French style stripe tees that are all the rage right now. Act fast though, their pieces don't seem to last long on the site before they sell out.

Disclosure: If anyone was wondering, I don't get paid to promote certain lines. I post what I love at the moment, which would be that striped boat neck tee above. POCKETS! Though I want the tee next just as much. Sigh.

Lyell Fall 2009

Like everyone else, I'm swooning over the new Lyell collection. My two favorite pieces are the Special Silk Blouse and the Triangle Cami. Ah, the back of the Special Silk Blouse, swoon swoon swoon!

Man Shops Globe

So did anyone else upgrade their cable to include the Sundance Channel, just so they could watch Man Shops Globe? I could watch people source vintage items and inspiration all day long.

I have to say I'm amazed that sellers actually let them film in their shops(though I'm not a famous buyer for Anthropologie). Our flea markets won't let you take pictures, and when I was in Paris it was even worse. I got kicked out of stores for pulling out my camera!

One shop owner explained to me that certain designers would have their people take detailed pictures of the item, not pay for it, but then replicate it on the runways. I was just trying to capture all the gorgeousness, one vendor had the most unbelievable vintage, sigh.

As for Keith Johnson's show, it is premieres tonight at 10pm!

What Can Make You Dance Again

We lost a loved one in our family, and the funeral was yesterday. Though it was expected, you never are really ready, and watching those left behind pick up the pieces is is just as painful.

This morning we were still stumbling around, trying to get back to normal. Then I turned on my computer to read my daily blogs, to see this adorable image above, and a grin broke out across my face. I adore the family of Sweet Fine Day, and though I have no children, I love to read about their life, both the highs and lows. Without one we wouldn't be able to experience the other.

I wanted to say thank you for all the comments and emails over the last several days. I know I'm behind in responses between the tech meltdown and the passing of our loved one. Oh, and Claudine, I'm totally stealing your black tulle skirt as shawl idea. Marvelous.

Temperley Behind the Scenes

 

I just rented Valentino: The Last Emperor, and I could have watched the behind the scenes action for hours. I love every aspect of the design process, from the initial inspiration to that exhilarating walk down the runway. I've been on the other side too, the sales side, which isn't as creative but just as complex. 

After watching the Valentino documentary I remembered I had some old Elle magazine tear sheets that covered Temperley's Spring 2005 fashion show. Since I had pulled two looks that I loved from the Spring 2010 line I thought I would post those as well.

*This post was supposed to go up yesterday in honor of British designers, but if you follow me on Twitter you'll know I've been having tech problems. Like Preen, Temperley shows in New York as well, but there is that lovely sales side that one has to take in account. 

I've had a lifelong love affair with velvety black mixed with soft colors, so the palettes showing up on the spring runways were right up my alley. I loved the feather jackets Temperley included in their Spring 2010 collection, and the dress on the right belongs in my closet.

Olsen Twins, Pour this Girl a Drink!

I'm not normally a drinker, but I would have gladly taken a shot from the Olsen twins after the tech hell of this week. My scanner also went down, as it keeps defaulting to some weird hazy scanning. I think I finally have it fixed so there will be a Home Profile coming up within the hour.

I know this has been a very fashion-centric blog lately, but I had a special home lineup planned for fashion week. Now that the scanner seems to be correct I will unleash more home posts then you can stand next week!
