It isn't quite the 1980's years of perms, but big, curly hair is showing up all over the place lately. We have it on the spring runways, Blake Lively has been channeling Sarah Jessica Parker, and I noticed it on Zooey Deschanel when I caught up on the New Girl this weekend.
Might be time to bust out the hot rollers and shake things up in the air-dried waves department.
It took all I could not to purchase all the sparkly pieces from Revlon's new Expressionists by Gucci Westman Collection. Instead I picked the most minimalist item, Smoky Canvas, a cool medium grey nail polish with just a hint of purple undertone. I love this color!
When I first tried this on in the store I was less than impressed. It is described online as a "High polish for your skin. Innovative tri-blend liquid, powder, gel formula goes beyond face powder to give you a sexy, sophisticated glow." I own several powders from Pupa that have a very velvety, almost moist texture and I assumed this would feel the same way.
The texture was your typical dry powder, and when the makeup artist applied it with a large brush I didn't see much of an effect. I then swiped it with my finger to get a feel of the finish and rubbed the residue off on my cheek. When I got outside I caught my reflection in the mirror and saw that streak of powder glistening in the sun I knew I had to go back and try it again.
You always hear about products that reflect light, but they never seem to live up to the hype. This powder comes alive when it interacts with light, and it has that wet look sheen that usually only a liquid can provide. I prefer to pat it along my cheekbone with the sponge applicator for a strong shine, but if you are wanting a lighter touch a brush will do fine. Estee Lauder, $40
This smoky eye look makes me all the more eager to get my hands on the silvered items in Chanel's Fall 2011 makeup collection. I've been trying to be good and wait for it to hit stores so I can play with each piece and figure out what I really love.
I think everyone has been suffering from wedding fever, though mine has nothing to do with Kate and William. My sister is getting married in less than two weeks, and I can't wait to celebrate with her.
So what made me feel beautiful on my wedding day? Wearing the dress of my dreams and my something blue shoes. Oh, and just enough makeup that everyone thinks the glowing skin, long lashes, rosy cheeks and lips are all you.
