What Happens in Vegas...

...is that you see a bunch of pretty things that stay in Vegas. I went and all I got was this t-shirt dress. I don't gamble or really drink, so Vegas is probably not the first place one thinks I would have fun. But if you tell me that I can swoon and moon over gorgeous shoes and bags I'll be the first one to sign up. 

I only had a couple of free hours and a list of shops I wanted to visit. While I was at Hermes browsing late one night I noticed a line forming across from the store. Apparently it was to get into Club XS and I was so entranced by the outfits that I wasted precious shopping hours just so I could people watch. 

Oh, and what was I looking at in Hermes?

 

It is confirmed, I still want the black leather band with gold stud version. Luckily they were sold out of that combination or I may have been in trouble.

Hmm, what else did I do? I took a taxi off the strip to In-N-Out Burger, which is a fast food restaurant. I'm sure this sounds nuts unless you have had their double double animal style and haven't been able to eat it for three years. I don't even like cheeseburgers but I love their version. 

I also made a stop at the Chanel Store located in Encore, but I'll save that for a separate post. 

Corsets & Irina Lazareanu

Okay, enough with the mundane everyday clothing. I'm wanting corsets, masks, lace and shine.  I'm going somewhere this weekend where I should be able to fit in wearing those things;)

Doesn't Irina Lazareanu remind you of the stunning Queen Michelle from Kingdom of Style?  I think Michelle's legs are as long as my entire body, sigh.

Want of the Day: AE Sweater Jacket in Cardinal Red

I'm going to work on including entire outfits with my Want of the Day picks. This is another casual running around doing errands outfit. 

-Wearing stiff dress shirts under cardigans makes me a little nuts, so I usually reach for softer knits to layer underneath. This little tee from Marc by Marc Jacobs reminds me of vintage Arabia Finland designs.

-I have yet to see this American Eagle sweater up close but I'm going to check it out first thing this weekend. It looks pretty perfect on my computer monitor.

-I decided to use the J.Crew little black silk skirt again, this may be something I need in my closet. 

-I could eat the Golden Goose Charlye Boots, they look that delicious to me. Distressed handmade leather boots with sides that go up on the outer leg.

-Proenza Schouler PS1 has a vintage style satchel design perfect for toting my notepads, pens and books.

*Most of the items I use on Polyvore are from the same sites because of how they photograph their items. Which means you will see a lot of items pulled from Net-a-porter, J.Crew, Anthropologie, La Garconne, etc. I will try to expand what I use as I come across sites that photograph their items separately. I love seeing items on models, but they don't work as well when you are building outfits;)

If you know of sites that I can use please post about them. I would love to use vintage sites as well.

Bang Bang/Rinko Kikuchi (The Brothers Bloom)

We rented The Brothers Bloom, and while it wasn't horrible, it is always more disappointing when you know a movie could have been really good. That being said, I fell in love with the character of Bang Bang, played by actress Rinko Kikuchi. 

She manages to steal every scene she is in, even without saying but a few words the whole movie. Not only does she provide hilarious comic relief, but she does it in style. I want to steal every piece of her wardrobe, from the tinted glasses to the perfect red lipstick.

 

 

 

 

 

In Her Closet: Fall Style

Though I love drama and glamour, my typical everyday outfits are more pared down. I like an ease to my outfits where I can run around without worrying about my feet killing me or fussing with too many layers.

-My favorite kind of outfit in the fall is a skirt or dress with tights and flat soled boots. I hate when the hem of my pants get wet so unless I can tuck them into boots I don't wear them.

-I love the sparkle of jewelry but I have a love/hate relationship with necklaces. I have a tendency to change my mind at the last minute and take them off. Sometimes I think they can distract from a beautiful neckline but I'm working on using them more often.

-With bags they usually have to have a strap. If the handle has any room to squeeze over my shoulder I will try. I have a vintage coach satchel that I love to wear but I've left it countless times sitting on the counter of a store or the table of a restaurant. 

-Super opaque black tights are a Moodboard wardrobe essential and I'm always on a quest for the next greatest pair.

-I alternate between boots and Mary Jane heels in the fall, but a flat soled knee hi boot is first in line if I'm going to running around all day.

Home Profile: Jane Mayle

I received a request for large scans of Jane Mayle's Greenwich Village home, as seen in the September 2007 issue of Domino Magazine. There were only two pages, and I wish they would have done a full house feature. I won't complain too much though, as this was one of my favorite issues ever.

I love everything about the room above. I still love shabby chic pieces, but used in a more rustic or modern setting. Vintage lace curtains and a robin's egg blue dresser accessorize a long antique table surrounded by mismatched chairs.

 

I always have an instant connection to fellow book lovers. 1970's bookshelves also house flea market finds, including her collection of textiles. I have old fabric remnants folded up that are too delicate or small to use, but just seeing them brings me joy.

This home belongs to members of Blonde Redhead, but since the pink vanity was a gift from Jane Mayle I thought I would include them. I didn't think you would mind since Kazu Makino's apartment is absolutely beautiful.

Look of the Day: Olivia's Vintage Top (The City)

 

Olivia had on plenty of cute outfits last night on The City, but my little eyes popped out over her ruffled open jacket. Joe Zee tells her she looks great and she comments that it is from the 20's. Gorgeous piece and I loved the way she(someone on the show?)styled it.

I discovered photographer Wendy Bevan's work via Sally Jane Vintage. Her photographs have a vintage dream like quality to them.

I'm beyond inspired by this editorial, the images looks like movie stills. Can you imagine how beautiful that film would be?
